A controlled hunt has a limited number of tags, which are obtained in a random drawing. Success rates are generally higher in controlled hunts than in general season hunts.

Second controlled hunt draw results now online
Results of the second controlled hunt drawing for elk, deer, pronghorn, and black bear have been posted through Fish and Game’s licensing system. Log in to your account at GoOutdoorsIdaho.com to check to see if you drew a controlled hunt tag.
Second big game controlled hunt drawing application period is Aug. 5-15
The application period for Idaho’s second big game controlled hunt drawing runs Aug. 5-15. Any hunter who drew a controlled big game hunt tag has until Aug. 1 to buy it, and those that aren't purchased will be available for a second drawing. The application period for fall 2024 deer, elk, pronghorn, swan, fall black bear, and fall turkey controlled hunts runs May 1 through June 5. All applicants will receive an email with their draw results by early July if there’s a valid email in their license account.
